Return to Roots

Thank you again to all of you who helped us and signed the petition.  We could not have done it without your help.  We are now approved by the City of Jackson to use our building as a real estate office, and you know what that means!  Time to renovate a building.  That's right, we now have the opportunity to get in and get this building fixed.  As you've seen it is a pretty dilapidated six-plex and it needs the works.  So our first step is to receive approval from The Historic Preservation Commission.  The Commission exist to regulate and maintain the historical character and authenticity of the neighborhood, and they are the governing body that oversees what you can and can't do to houses in the Belhaven neighborhood.  It's a great thing that they exist because the Commission protects all the old houses in the neighborhood.  In this blog entry you can see the photo of the rendering that Walt has sketched up.  This first image just shows what we'd like to do with the facade of the building to return it to its original condition.  If you've noticed the building you'll see that we're fixing the header height of the windows (and louvered shutters - not depicted in the drawing), and we'll return what was a screened in porch back to look just like that.  All in all its a return to roots, and I don't think we'll have much trouble getting it approved.  Thanks for checking in, we'll keep you updated on the progress.
